Moise teaches song
On the first afternoon at Sobobade we were all waiting at the amphitheater for our first dance class. Along comes a man we had never seen before and he started singing for us. This uncut audio sample is a great example of how the Senegalese folks came and befriended us, found ways to cross the language barrier, and so generously shared their music. We came to know him as Moise Agnessa, or Moses for short, and he became a great friend to all of us. He's from the Casamance region of Senegal.

Tony, Moise, and Siomara jam

Fastforward just a few minutes. We're learning our second song from our new friend, Moise. Several others join us. Can you tell when Moise is motioning to us, "Listen to me first, then you"? He was a great teacher, breaking phrases down for us when we needed it. Listen in the background and you'll hear Tony playing along on the balafon. Or is that Siomara?

See if you can learn the song, too.
